On Saturday 20th August we held our 6th All Female Sparring Camp at Lee Jones ABC in partnership with the Merseyside and Cheshire Region.
We had a superb turnout of 45 girls varying from Schools-Seniors, Novices to National Champions and England Representatives.
The day began with a quick chat, followed by a group warm up and non contact partner drills. We find this is a great way for the boxers to meet one another and begin to calm the nerves.
After the warm up, the boxers are put into groups and the sparring begins. After a couple of hours we stop for a quick bite to eat and drink before we spend the last hour group training with the coaches padding for girls.
Saturday was another huge success with the boxers getting lots of competitive rounds in. It was also brilliant to see the more experienced athletes working with the more novice boxers to help them learn and develop.
These Sparring days are so important as they bring together females from all over the country who then get the chance to train with one another and go on to make new friends.
For some girls, this is the only time they get to train alongside other female boxers and its super motivating for them to see how many girls are actually involved in the sport and the levels they can reach.
These days wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for the amazing coaches who came up and supported the day by overseeing the sparring and running the warm ups and group training.
We have some very exciting plans going forward, including running a training day for females who are new in to the sport and not quite at the sparring level, so watch this space.
Once again, thank you to all boxers and club coaches for making Sparring Camp 6 an incredible experience.
