Girls In Gloves (GIG) is an initiative set up by Wimborne Amateur Boxing Club with 4 main goals...
- To increase female participation in Boxing through various channels
- To Increase opportunities for Female Boxers
- Introduce Female Boxing into Schools
- Help to Tackle Mental Health in younger girls
With more and more girls dropping out of sports every day and with the stereotype that Boxing is a boys-only
sport, the numbers of Female Boxers are very low throughout the Country. The GIG initiative aims to make Boxing more easily accessible to girls of all ages, whether they want to do it for fitness, confidence, make new friends or compete, everyone must feel welcome
Our After School Boxing Program has already been very successful and the first 3 clubs we set up saw over 100 girls sign up to take part. We aim to keep pushing forward with these and hope that more clubs around the country are able to provide something similar.
It's one thing getting girls into the sport, but we must keep them involved also. This means giving them plenty of opportunities, whether this is competing, sparring at different clubs, squad meets or social gatherings and events.
If we can get girls into the sport, keep them interested and progressing then we are definitely winning
During all our sessions we take time out to chat with the girls about Mental Health, what it means to them, what they can do if they feel depressed, lonely or are going through a hard time, how being online can contribute to poor mental health and who they can / should talk too.
Our aim is to tackle mental health in younger females through education and knowledge.
Its time to push Womens Boxing to new heights...
We believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
To increase participation of females in Boxing by making the sport more easily accessible through School Clubs and Female Only Club Projects, to increase opportunities for our current female boxers and to tackle mental health in younger females
To have more All Female After School Boxing Clubs set up across the country and to increase female numbers and opportunities for females in Amateur Boxing which will give us more access to girls so we can speak with them about Mental Health.
